The Plus Bus at Kent Displays
The Boogie Board Writing Tablet hit the road on the very first Plus Bus Tour this past week. This unique tour of Northeast Ohio is organized by
Cleveland Plus, an organization whose goal is to understand and promote the regional benefits of Cleveland, Akron, and Youngstown, Ohio and the surrounding communities.
The Plus Bus riders were 50 Cleveland Plus advisory committee members. Their tour of the region included visits to three progressive businesses. Kent Displays, manufacturer of the Boogie Board tablet, was honored to be the first stop on the first of many planned tours throughout the coming months.
While at Kent Displays, committee members toured the production facility and listened to a presentation from the Greater Cleveland Partnership. The facility tour included a look at the one-of-a-kind roll-to-roll production line used to make the Boogie Board tablet’s innovative pressure-sensitive LCD. Every guest saw firsthand the cutting-edge technology behind the Boogie Board tablet and was able to try it for themselves.

Juan Sombrero Enters Kitchen Stadium.
The Boogie Board LCD Writing Tablet is off on another adventure, this time with Juan Sombrero, an audacious character illustrated by Jimmy Hendrix, a programmer by trade. Juan’s adventures, which include battling supernatural forces, discovering time travel and going fishing, are chronicled on the Boogie Board tablet and then pictures are posted on Jimmy’s blog. Currently, Juan Sombrero and the Boogie Board tablet have been on over twenty adventures.
“I love the Boogie Board tablet! Originally I bought it for work. As a programmer, I find myself drawing data diagrams and flow charts quite often,” Jimmy says. “It never made it…I enjoyed drawing on it so much that I started and couldn’t stop!” The ability to vary the thickness of the lines, the simplicity of the design, and the natural way it feels to draw on the Boogie Board tablet solidified Jimmy’s love of the Boogie Board tablet. “It was from there that Juan Sombrero was born,” he says. “Wonderfully, I can’t erase part of the drawing. I have to keep going. Fix my mistakes by addition or simply accept the imperfections. There is something Tao about it.”

Jimmy’s enthusiasm for the Boogie Board tablet has resulted in additional purchases for family members and recommendations to friends. “On top of the one I bought for me, I gave my Mom one for her birthday, she loved it. When I showed a friend of mine, he ordered one on the spot,” he says. “Now I want more of them. I want one for work, one for my wife, one for the fridge.”

The FAQ page (previously Common Questions) has been expanded to include in-depth answers to the questions we receive the most about the Boogie Board tablet. The answers also address some areas of confusion or misinformation that have appeared in online product reviews (consumer and media), blogs and Web sites:
- The Boogie Board tablet is like an Etch-a-Sketch (It’s quite different)
- Will a save feature be added? (Yes)
- A Boogie Board tablet with save will cost $50 (The price has yet to be determined)
- The contrast is poor (Contrast varies based on ambient light)
- The Boogie Board tablet scratches easily (Scratching under normal use is highly unlikely)
- Why is the battery non-replaceable? (The battery will last 6 years if the tablet is erased 20 times per day)

Lester Lefton, Kent State University President (left), and Tim Ryan, U.S. Congressman (OH; right), proudly highlighted the Boogie Board tablet’s Ohio roots at a recent meeting of state leaders. The tablet is tangible evidence of the state’s expanding hi-tech sector and public-private collaboration. Kent Displays/Improv Electronics licenses the LCD technology used in the tablet from Kent State University. The LCDs are manufactured by Kent Displays/Improv Electronics at our headquarters in Kent, Ohio.

The myboogieboard.com store has expanded shipping options to include addresses in Canada and Japan. Shipping is also available to addresses in China through a partner site.
Shipping options will be further expanded to other countries in the near future. As part of this expansion, Improv Electronics has worked diligently to provide the most favorable shipping rates.
